Wood pellet production process description
Industrially, the process of wood pellet production is mainly divided into the following steps: wood crushing, moisture control, biomass pelletization, wood pellet cooling, wood pellet weighing and packaging. In a wood pellet production line, the pelletizing process is the most important. Like the granulation section, the die and rollers are the most important parts of the granulator.
Wood material crushing: In general, the size of the raw material should always be smaller than the particle size. For logs or round wood, a wood shredder is required for shredding. The smaller pieces will then be fed into a wood chipper, which will chip the wood into chips for further use. If you want to make particles of 6 mm or smaller, you need a wood hammer mill to make the wood chips into wood chips with a size no larger than 6 mm.
Moisture control: To manufacture high-quality wood pellets, the moisture content of raw materials should be around 12%. Therefore it is necessary to remove excess moisture from the raw material. In industrial pellet production, wood pellet coolers are often used. For small scale, you can choose to sun dry or other methods.
Biomass pelleting: The woody material enters the pelletizing chamber through the feeder, where the mold and rollers move at relatively high speed. With the extrusion force in relative motion and high temperature molding, the intermolecular forces in the wood molecules are changed. Thereby increasing the plasticity of wood materials. The material is then shaped into pellets through holes in the die and pushed out.
Wood Pellet Cooling: The pellets coming out of the pellet machine are hot and humid. Pellet coolers are used to lower the temperature and reduce the moisture content. After cooling, they are easier to store or transport.
Wood pellet weighing and packaging: The wood pellet packaging machine can pack the wood pellets in plastic bags of the same weight for shipping or selling. For large quantities of wood pellets, bulk trucks are required. Bulk granules are loaded directly from the granulator into trucks for shipment to bulk storage containers. Bulk trucks are more expensive than regular flatbed trucks, but the handling systems are more efficient.
